Nintendo Switch Sports Resort: Wuhu Island is back and my arm already hurts

I played the return of Wuhu Island on Switch 2: Miis in the crowd, Wii legends and online bowling that humbled me. Is it worth it?

If you had a Wii at home, you remember the wrist strap on the remote. It wasn't there for decoration: plenty of TVs fell victim to an overexcited tennis serve. Well, Nintendo decided to bring all of that back. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort just landed on Switch 2, reviving the 2009 classic, and I've already moved the coffee table out of the way. Just in case. ๐Ÿ˜…

The basics

  • Platform: Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive
  • Release date: October 22, 2026
  • Price: R$ 279.90 on the Brazilian eShop
  • Language: fully translated into Brazilian Portuguese
  • Modes: solo, local with friends on the couch or online

12 sports (and a few left in time-out)

There are 12 sports, with a good chunk of the Wii classics back: archery, bowling, tennis, basketball, volleyball, boxing and friends. There's new stuff too, like skateboarding and Jet Ski.

But I need to vent: where's my frisbee? ๐Ÿ˜ญ Where's skydiving? And Swordplay, the mode that turned every friendship into a deadly rivalry? All left out. Maybe in a future update? ๐Ÿ™

The Joy-Cons finally understand you

The precision is on another level. On the Wii, you'd make the perfect move and the game would understand something completely different. Here, archery, volleyball and basketball respond exactly the way you move your arm. If you missed, it's on you now. It hurts, but it's fair. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Bowling got easier too: you no longer have to let go of the button at the right moment to throw the ball. The sad part is that you can't accidentally throw the ball backwards anymore and watch the crowd run for their lives. That was one of the funniest moments in the game, I'll miss it.

Not everything is perfect, though. Skateboarding uses the Joy-Con's mouse mode, and I felt like I was trying to skate with a computer mouse. Uncomfortable. ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ Jet Ski asks you to hold both controllers sideways like handlebars, and by the third course your shoulder starts to feel it.

The Miis are back and I almost cried ๐Ÿฅน

I really wanted this and wasn't expecting it: the Miis are back in the crowd! ๐Ÿ’– You can choose whether the Miis saved on your console show up in the background of matches, watching and cheering. That means you can now miss a strike in front of your mom's Mii, your friends' Miis and anyone else saved on your console. ๐Ÿ‘€

The new characters are cute, but nothing replaces the charm of a round-headed, slightly cross-eyed Mii. ๐Ÿ’•

Time to put together a look ๐Ÿ‘—

Now, if there's one thing I LOOOVED in this game, it's the customization. You can change your character's look (hair, face and more) and, best of all, the outfits! ๐Ÿ˜ Just go to Customise on the home screen, pick your user and open Outfits & Accessories.

How do you get new clothes? There are two ways:

  • At the shop: the Item Center (the gift box icon on the home screen) is the in-game shop. There are two weekly collections (different for each player, so yours might not match your friend's) and a monthly one. Every 1,000 points gets you a surprise item from the collection you choose. You earn points by playing any sport, online or offline, and your first match of the day gives you a 1,000-point bonus. ๐ŸŽ
  • By playing: each sport has 5 achievements, and completing them unlocks outfits, accessories and decorations for your player tag. And in the leisure modes (prop plane, skateboarding and Jet Ski) there are photos and hibiscus flowers hidden around Wuhu Island that unlock exclusive outfits you won't find anywhere else. ๐ŸŒบ

And of course I couldn't miss the Halloween mood, right? This is my character, all ready for spooky season! ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿง™โ€โ™€๏ธ

Island Crown: the mode that will destroy your ego ๐Ÿ‘‘

There's a mode where you take on the island's NPCs in every sport, climbing the ranking all the way to first place. Then, just when you think you're hot stuff, the legendary opponents show up: Miis from the original Wii Sports Resort, coming straight out of your childhood memories to humble you all over again.

The boxing legend, for example, is Matt. Yes, HIM, the Swordplay final boss from the Wii. The man just swapped his sword for gloves and he's still unbeatable. If you played the original, you'll recognize him right away. ๐ŸฅŠ

And with so many outfits to unlock, at least you can get beaten by Matt while looking good. ๐Ÿ’…

Online: people have been training in secret

You can play on the couch with friends, take on everything solo or go online against people from all over the world. And here's my public humiliation report: in online bowling, I played about 8 matches and only made it past the first round twice. TWICE. ๐Ÿ˜ญ People are really good at it!

Other than that, matches run smoothly, with rankings and rewards to keep the competition alive. ๐ŸŽฎ

Is it worth it?

I haven't played every sport yet, but so far it's a lot of fun. Do I miss frisbee? I do. Could skateboarding be less weird? It could. But the precise controls, the Miis back in the crowd and the Wii legends showing up to destroy you make it worth every penny. It's perfect if you miss Wuhu Island or just want an excuse to get the family together for a really heated match. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’–

Just remember to put the Joy-Con strap around your wrist. Your TV will thank you. ๐Ÿ“บ

Thank you, Nintendo Brazil! ๐Ÿ’–

Before I go, a special thank you to the Nintendo Brazil team, who sent me the game for this review. It's an immense pleasure to be part of this and to share the experience with all of you. Thank you so much for the trust! ๐ŸŽฎโœจ
